Cab Meeting Calendar
- All meetings are open to the membership of Union Cab. Members of the general public may attend with the prior approval or invitation from the president of the cooperative.
|
- The history of Union
Cab began almost ten years before our first fare during the early
1970's when economic and social conditions in Madison were in
a state of constant change. The same movement that created the
Teacher's Assistant Association, Memorial Union Labor Organization,
WORT-FM and the food coops (Mifflin St and Willy St) created the
environment for Union Cab.
- We've posted our cooperative's Articles of Incorporation and
our By-Laws to help groups starting
coops see an example from a working cooperative. Also, if you
are just wondering how workplace democracies are organized, these
documents will give you a general idea (please note, that we also
have an internal policy manual in addition to these documents).
- Union
Cab's Guiding Principles
- State Law, our Articles
and By-Laws provide the legal framework for our cooperative. However
that can be said of most corporations. Our ethical framework consists
of our core values and the rochdale principles.
- Union Cab Board of Directors
- For over 26 years, the membership of Union Cab has chosen its own leaders. During that time, many have held the title of director and served the cooperative with honor.

- Made in the USA:
American Worker Cooperatives
- This 35 minute documentary
provides an excellent introduction for anybody who wants to
learn about the worker cooperative model. The film takes the
viewer through the basics of the model. The documentary features
Union Cab, but also shows the diversity of the movement which
includes home care nurses, shipwrights, bakers, and even a
sex toy mail order company. Over the 27 minutes, people will
learn
definitions, start-up procedures and the reality of the worker-owned
environment
(it's not all
paradise). Most importantly, viewers will develop an understanding
of the transformative power of gaining economic control of
one's life. The film can be purchased from Headlamp Pictures at the link above.
