Union Cab of Madison exists as a business entity and a membership organization. For some organizations, this duality of purpose might present an identity crisis. Through conscious efforts at creating social cohesion among the membership, between the membership and the organization, and ensuring that the organization maintains a strong strategic fit to its industry, Union Cab manages to create a dynamic synergy of the two types of organizations.
The chart below shows the structure of the organziation. A nine member board governs Union Cab utilizing a committee structure to develop policy and hiring a General Manager to oversee operations. In addition, there is a strong peer review/peer support system that ensures that members adhere to policy and receive the guidance needed to excel both as owners and workers in the organization.
